Just a one hours easy drive away from our family gites
is world famous La Rochelle with its fantastic, state of
the art very child friendly Aquarium. You are
transported by 'submarine' down into the depths of the
ocean where you take a journey around the worlds seas.

A perfect child friendly attraction and a must for all the family. Top tip in summer - go early to the aquarium, it gets very busy come rain or shine then take a walk around
La Rochelle in the afternoon and treat yourself to a superb seafood meal, seeing all those fish will certainly have got your appetite going !. There are literally hundreds of restaurants to
choose from. We always park at the aquarium and then after the visit we take the boat taxi across the port (which the children love) and this drops you right outside our favourite
restaurant, Andrés. This area is where a lot of the great (all year round) restaurants are. As you move away from this area the restaurants can be seasonal ones with temporary staff
where you can pick up a cheap moules frites meal, but for the amazing fresh seafood that La Rochelle is renowned for you may have to pay a little bit more.
La Rochelle is one of the main attractions when spending your holiday at our family gites in France. It is a full day out, so worth the hours drive and you will come away with
memorys to last a lifetime. Many of guests return to our family gites again and again and each time they will spend a day in La Rochelle; saying that, we also have uests who have been
to us 5 years in a row and never been to La Rochelle because theres so much to do at our gites !! Depends what you want from your holiday in France.

Perfect for all ages but especially so for little ones, as most of the tanks come
down to the floor, our littlest is fascinated. The star attraction are the sharks, their
two storey tank can be viewed all through the aquarium and you can sit and
watch their majestic movements in the 'cinema' style seating area whilst listening
to rousing classical music.
